Games on Demand is a gaming event held at lots of conventions, dedicated to setting up tabletop RPGs (in the vein of D&D) for pickup groups. No reservation required, no planning needed, no familiarity required, just swing on by on the hour and see what games are going to be running. I first played […]

Warface – Free-to-Eat food truck
Warface’s free-to-eat food truck (wordplay on free-to-play) camped out by the entrance to the convention center. While supplies lasted, convention goers could pick up a quick bite of sliders or mini grilled cheese sandwiches. We weren’t hungry, but I couldn’t resist!
Mortal Kombat – Jade and Sub-Zero
I don’t know why Jade and Sub-Zero were at the Machinima booth posing with people, but frankly I didn’t care. Yet another recurring sentiment at PAX.
Archer – Doctor Krieger and his virtual girlfriend
I have no idea who these people are, but I liked their costumes. Bit of a recurring theme throughout PAX, though usually “League of Legends” is a good guess.
Borderlands – Mutant Midget Psycho
It might be in poor taste to joke about hyperactive midgets, but even when this fellow wasn’t in character, he was definitely juiced up on something. True to the game, and terribly creepy.
Firefall – Thumper
This Firefall thumper has always made an appearance since the game first debuted at PAX. This is the first sight you’re treated to as you enter the convention, with its piston pounding, pneumatics blaring, and booth babes hawking beta invites. This pair was kind enough to take a moment to pose with me, military […]
League of Legends – Tryndamere
Conventioneers recommend bringing a mailing tube, to roll up and store any posters you pick up. What they don’t mention is that it serves double duty for pose mimicry. This badass life-size Tryndamere statue had a stellar sword and set of armor, down the the illuminated blue frost trim on his weapon, gear and […]
League of Legends – Sona
Sona, you are not an AD Carry! Go grab a Support lanyard RIGHT NOW!
Tomb Raider
This life-size Tomb Raider statue was a mixed bag. On one hand, the scale is really impressive, and there are a number of great details like her mud-stained boots and the ripples in her clothing. On the other hand, her facial expression and hands betray her as nothing more than a Fun-In-The-Jungle Barbie.
Gears of War – Palace Guard
You might go the whole convention without realizing that the booths on the show floor are actually inset from the perimeter of the convention hall. Outside, there is a wide channel where exhibitors can push carts of equipment, where attendees use the restroom, and where the expeditious or agoraphobic retreat to when they […]
